Dior - When art inspires fashion

07/08/2018 (archive)

During her research in the Dior archives, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Artistic Director of the women’s collections, had her interest piqued by a series of photographs of Niki de Saint Phalle.

Embodying the beauty of her time, more adolescent than androgynous, she exhibits a style of dressing that is iconic, personal and whimsy but current in its proportions. This collection, inspired by the artist, also makes reference to Marc Bohan and his little dresses and jumpsuits, sometimes teaming with full skirts, open in the front. There are also large polka dots, black and white checks, trousers worn with regular or safari jackets and teamed, according to mood, with men’s shirts featuring stripes or polka dots or simply in white.

Finally, the atmosphere and references of the collection, whether implicit or explicit, lead us into the shamelessness of the sixties, illustrative of the changing forces of these feminine universes. They change not only fashion, but the cotemporary world too.
